Bakewell Town and Community Trust (BTCT) is a registered Charitable Company established in January 2006.
The primary reasons that BTCT was established was to take over and manage the restoration and re-launch of the 19th century Town Hall, an important community building in the centre of Bakewell which had been neglected for many years.
The Town Hall was not realising its full potential as a venue for the arts or commerce and was inaccessible in many respects as a community facility. BTCT is renovating the building with the aim of making it accessible to all members of the community.
Research identified that there is a shortage of conference and community meeting places in the area particularly offering access to modern technology such as wi-fi and hearing loops and the Town Hall will aim to address these deficits.
Currently the Bakewell Town plan is being developed and BTCT is a key partner in the process, contributing ideas and moving it forward. There is no Town Partnership in place, and the members of the Trust view themselves as representing the community in regard to this important function.
The Trustees/Directors of BTCT have an excellent range of business, financial and public sector experience and skills. In addition, the membership base stands in excess of 50 members, and good working relationships have been developed with other prominent groups, for example, the Peak National Park Authority, Town, District and County Council's, Bakewell Community Interest Group, and local schools.
Membership of the Bakewell Town & Community Trust is open to all residents of Bakewell and to local organisations within the Town. This is a Community Initiative working to preserve and upgrade the Town's chief asset for the benefit of the community as a whole.
The annual subscription has been set at £10 payable on joining and on 1 January each year thereafter.
